Most of our plants ship bare-root: dug fresh from the field while dormant and shipped without soil. Bare-root plants cost less to ship, weigh less, and settle into your garden quickly because their roots go straight into your native soil. Here's what to expect:

• Shipping windows: Each product shows when it ships. Many perennials and ferns ship right away; trees and shrubs ship while dormant, [November through April]; some fruit trees ship in spring.
• What arrives: Dormant plants arrive as roots and stems, not leafed-out plants. Leaves and flowers follow once the weather warms.
• Packing: We wrap roots in moist material to keep them fresh in transit. See how we pack for transit.
• Planting: Plant as soon as you can after delivery. Our planting instructions and bare-root guide walk you through every step.

Start with your USDA growing zone, then match each plant to its spot: how much sun it gets, whether the soil stays wet or dry, and how much room the plant will need at maturity. Native plants are a dependable choice for most yards, since they're adapted to local weather and support birds, bees and butterflies. Every product page lists zones, sun, water needs and mature size, and you can use the filters above to narrow 300+ plants down to the ones that fit your yard.

What is an online nursery?

An online nursery is a plant grower or garden center that sells and ships live plants directly to customers. TN Nursery grows its own trees, shrubs and perennials in Tennessee and ships them nationwide.

How do I choose a good online nursery?

Look for a nursery that grows its own plants, clearly lists the size and form of what you'll receive, shows growing zones for every plant, offers a warranty, and has real customer reviews. Buying from the grower usually means fresher plants and lower prices.

Do you ship to my state?

We ship to all 50 states [except: LIST ANY RESTRICTED STATES OR PLANTS]. Each product page shows its shipping window.

What are bare-root plants?

Bare-root plants are dug while dormant and shipped without soil. They cost less to ship than potted plants, and they establish quickly once planted because their roots grow directly into your garden soil.

When will my order ship?

Each product lists its shipping window. Perennials and ferns often ship right away, while trees and shrubs ship during dormancy so they transplant with the least stress.
