Bald Cypress trees thrive in moist, well-drained soils and tolerate standing water. Trim in winter to maintain shape and remove any dead or diseased branches. They are generally low-maintenance and resistant to pests and diseases. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells.
The Bald Cypress Tree thrives in full sun to partial shade. For optimal growth, it prefers full sun, which means it needs at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. However, it can accept some shade, particularly in hot climates.

Unboxed our trees this morning. They were packed nicely in the box with soaked cardboard cut ups wrapped around the roots and a plastic bag over that. Should see buds in a few weeks!

About this plant
The Bald Cypress Tree (Taxodium distichum) is a deciduous conifer native to the southeastern parts of the United States and up the Mississippi Valley. While it looks like an evergreen, its needles turn copper in the fall and drop, which is how it earned the name “bald.”
Family: Cupressaceae
Hardiness Zones: 4-10
Light Requirement: Full sun, tolerates light shade
Water Needs: Moist to wet; handles dry spells once established
Height: 50-70 ft.
Spread: 20-30 ft.
Growth Rate: Moderate to Fast
Fall Color: Rusty orange to copper
Wildlife Value: Attracts birds, squirrels, and wood ducks
The Bald Cypress Tree is a deciduous conifer with reddish bark that grows in a pyramidal habit. It produces small cones that drop seeds to the ground.
It is a low-maintenance tree that requires minimal effort once well-established in your garden. It prefers well-draining, acidic soil, but they can tolerate different soils, including very wet or occasionally flooded soils. They can also tolerate some salt in the soil. Avoid planting in alkaline soils; this can lead to chlorosis.
Deer rarely browse it, but protect young trees from deer rubbing their antlers on the trunk. Other wildlife like wood ducks, squirrels, and songbirds all make use of it.
This plant ships bare root. Every bald cypress tree for sale here is dug from our Tennessee fields in 1-2, 2-3, or 3-4 foot sizes. Give it room, since it gets 50 to 70 feet tall. Plant it while it's dormant, at the depth it grew, and keep the soil moist all through the first summer. Once it's rooted in, it handles wet ground and dry spells alike.
The bald cypress tree is notable for its Cypress knees, knobby protrusions that emerge from the soil, mostly where the ground stays wet or floods. In a well-drained lawn, you'll rarely see them, but near a pond, keep the tree back from paths and mowing areas.
