Green Velvet Boxwood is a hybrid cross of B. sempervirens × B. microphylla, which are both native to Europe and Asia. However, this particular hybrid was developed in the 1960s by Sheridan Nurseries in Canada. This successful hybrid was cultivated to cross the cold hardiness of B. microphylla with the lush green foliage of B. sempervirens. This shrub is both winter-tolerant with rich, bright green foliage. While slow growing, gaining a few inches in height per year, it is robust and vigorous, adding dense foliar appeal to your garden.

I purchased a selection of blue plants. I planted the bare roots in a large planter I call the nursery. I wait until they are adapting to their new environment. When they start growing about three inches, I transplant to a larger pot, then to their permanent location in my garden. One grew to four feet. Others are 1- 2 feet! I can see buds sprouting and can’t wait until they bloom. I did have to cut the 4ft one down to 2 ft so it would get fuller.
