The flowers will give way to long, slender green seedpods that resemble green beans in nature, which turn brown as they mature. Its bark is ridged with thick, chunky scales. In the South, this is commonly called the "worm tree" because it is covered with worms in the summer when people fish with it.

I purchased a selection of blue plants. I planted the bare roots in a large planter I call the nursery. I wait until they are adapting to their new environment. When they start growing about three inches, I transplant to a larger pot, then to their permanent location in my garden. One grew to four feet. Others are 1- 2 feet! I can see buds sprouting and can’t wait until they bloom. I did have to cut the 4ft one down to 2 ft so it would get fuller.
