This tree was originally native to North America. It can be found in Canada and the United States. One Native American tribe called it the “Tree of Peace.” Because Captain George Weymouth first brought the tree’s seeds to the United States from England in 1605, it was known by the “Weymouth” appellation for many years. Today, this title is still included in one of the tree’s common names.
